From Kneehigh Ninja to Black Belt Instructor!
We are excited to introduce our newest full time instructor… Mr. Ashton Azelton! Some of you will know Mr. Azelton as he has been a part-time instructor while he attended college. Mr. Azelton graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Kinesiology, with a concentration in Exercise Science in May, 2026 and will begin teaching full time at Jhoon Rhee Arlington starting this coming week!

Mr. Azelton began his Tae Kwon Do training in 2008 as a KneeHigh Ninja under Masters Shackelford and Pineda at Jhoon Rhee Arlington. He earned his Black Belt in 2014 at the age of ten. From 2015 to 2019, Mr. Azelton competed in Tae Kwon Do and Sport Karate, achieving several National Top Ten Rankings in both sparring and forms (watch his youth competition form here). At the age of sixteen, Mr. Azelton earned his 2nd Dan Black Belt and shortly thereafter began teaching at Jhoon Rhee Arlington as a part-time instructor.

Mr. Azelton has extensive martial arts weapons experience including the Bo Staff as well as with the Kama (competing nationally) and he additionally has a passion for Full-Contact Martial Arts and has spent time training and competing professionally in Thailand. He has a lifelong love of Tae Kwon Do and the Jhoon Rhee community and is currently working toward his 3rd Dan Black Belt.
